The Chaco Canyon in New Mexico

The Chaco canyon lies in the desert of the north western region of the desert in New Mexico.  The Navaho use to call the people by the word ‘Ansazi’ which means ‘the ancient ones’. These Ansazi used the Chaco canyon as their main ceremonial site. The Ansazi were people who hunted and gathered food. They started living in settled communities eventually and Chaco canyon is one of those few places where they settled and lived. In the period between 900 AD and 1100 AD, many sophisticated complex buildings were built. The village that was built had about six hundred rooms with many buildings going up two and three levels. The village was called Pueblo Bonito. There were ceremonial structures built called kivas. At one time, the village could hold comfortably a population of about twelve hundred people.

After researchers has investigated the site and found out (through tree ring dating) that during the period around 1150 ad, this region experienced a great drought. And because of this drought, the village was abandoned…

After many years, soldiers from the United States army came across the site in the year 1850.following that, the site was made a national monument in the year 1907. And finally in the year 1920, national geographic society started reconstructions of this site.

The Chaco complex has these unique lines that go straight into the ground.  These lines extend for about twenty miles into the desert. Conventional archeologists have a very simple take on this that the lines indicated that these lines lead to outlying settlements.  However this seems highly unlikely because these straight lines were straight regardless of the terrain it was on. They couldn’t have been used for travel as they go up and down vertical cliffs which make its possible to be followed by foot or any other way.

After further investigation was done, it was found out the lines were here because of some religious cause or activity, and such the evidence says!

Now, more than five hundred miles of these lines have been charted. The lines are mostly visible during the early mornings; and late afternoons when the sun casts a deep shadow. The lines now can only be seen clearly; from the air.

At this time, the lines seem to be eroded by natural weathering over the many hundred years. Most of these lines are weathered away and very few are visible and have remained.

The Chaco national historical park is a United States national park located between Albuquerque and Farmington by the Chaco wash.

The site is a UNESCO world heritage site and it has an amazing collection of ancient ruins and it also preserves one of the most unique historical sites in the world.
