  • Dura Europos
    Dura Europos or Fort Europos is a ruin in Syria. This is the remains of a Hellenistic Roman walled city setting on a ninety meter cliff above the Euphrates River bank. It is situated close to the Salhiye village in the present day Syria. The site was ravaged due to war and was abandoned in the 3 r d century AD, and lies hidden till it was rediscovered in 1920. Archaeological digs revealed that the site was home to the both the oldest synagogue, as well as the oldest church ever built. The immense significance of the site is evident. The sites are in a remarkable state of preservation, and is sometimes known as the “Pompeii of the Syrian Desert.” Getting There . . .   • St Michaels Mount: Truly Majestic
    St Michaels Mount and Mont St Michel are situated on English Channel’s either side. St Michaels Mount is dangerously perched on outcroppings of coastal rocks. Numerous visions of Archangel Michael were spotted at both locations. This happened in the fifth century BC. Both shrines have a common history. St Michaels Mount served as a port and post for trading materials like tin and copper. The mount guards the entrance to the district of Cornwall from the Land’s End. The tiny island was occupied by mystics and hermits immediately after the defeat of the merchants at the hands of Julius Caesar in BC 56. According to legend, St Keyne visited the island.   • Lindisfarne: Its Loveliness
    The island of Lindisfarne got its name from the Anglo-Saxons who resided here. The precise meaning of the word is still unknown. However, the Durham monks made an addition of the words ‘Holy Island’ after the Normans conquered the island. Lindisfarne was originally inhabited by Saint Aidan. The first monastery on the island was constructed in 635 AD. Lindisfarne served as the site of Saint Cuthbert’s ministry. The Viking attack in 793 AD dealt a huge blow to Lindisfarne. The island is aptly called ‘holy’ because of the death of the Durham monks in the pagan attack.   • Art and Sacred Architecture in Ravenna
    The Basilica Di San Vitale, which is located in Ravenna, dates all the way back to the sixth century. This is the place that has some of the finest mosaics in the world. The plan to have this constructed was the idea of Ecclesius who was a bishop of Ravenna. . After a little the when this bishop went to Bynazntium and met with the pope John in the year five hundred and twenty five, that was when therodoric was succeeded by amalasuntha his daughter, as the ruler of the great Goths of Ravenna. These rules were essentially Aryan, although the daughter was quite tolerant of the Catholic people, compared to her father. The construction of this place began in the year five hundred and twenty six.   • Where protestant revolution began, now a pilgrimage spot-Wittenberg
    The entire protestant reformation had started out at this place.  This place has a population of about fifty thousand people. Luther was apparently part of the Augustinian Monastery. Many building that were built here are from the very time as Luther. Luther was initially a monk who later turned into the owner. This is all preserved and is considered to be the worlds most premiere museum that was built in dedication to martin Luther. There are many historical artifacts in this region. There are paintings by Cranachs. The doors of the all saints church i.e. the Scholosskirche which emanates the castle church.
